Emerald trance life in IRELAND
Ireland leads world for quality of life well ahead of second-place Switzerland. And one of the attractions of the Emerald Isle for sure is its psy scene, still small - and still keeping the magic. First psy festival about to launch soon …
Irish parties are mainly indoor and concentrated in Dublin. Apart from some exceptional hedonistic outdoor free parties during the summer, it’s very unlikely to find a psynight outside Dublin. The established promoters are pushing up the quality rather than the quantity to make this scene (which is full of good vibes and powerful energy) bigger not just in terms of number of attendants.
1999 saw Irelands first regular full on Psychedelic Trance club known as Druids Circle. At the end of 2002 a collective called Moonemotions, formed mainly by Spanish and Italians with the aim of filling a gap in the country and in their hearts, began to run a weekly club night in Irelands Capital. Around about the same time, the first psychedelic trance record store called Druids Circle was opened but closed a year later, so there’s no specialized shop in the country exclusive for psytrance.
In 2004 Moonemotions was no more, but some of the remaining crew wanted to maintain a fresh vibe psy spirit experience and moved the psynights to a few of the best clubs in Dublin such as RedBox and TBMC, bringing forth a new dream under the name of Neutronyx; a group that infused a collective of decorators (Atom.Glow), DJs and VJs, helping the scene to evolve.
During 2005 many special events were put on like Magic Castle with Indika, biggest psytrance charity party with almost 800 attendants in help of a children’s hospital. New Collectives emerged in Dublin during like Synesthetic that made a couple of parties and brought over Phyx and Aleph (Timecode, South Africa) in a co-promotion with Ajuca Productions confirming what is the preferred sound of the island, the full-on!!! Also psytrance can be also found in the capital at a bimonthly multi-room party called Planet Underground where psy beats share venue with Techno, Drum& Bass and chill out or Reggae.
In 2006 Druids Circle will be back in action with a monthly psychedelic night that for sure will be a big pleasure to be at. And we are looking forward to the first psychedelic festival in the History of Ireland! Main psy activists with the support of some England based groups have decided to make a three days open air festival called Life Festival which will take place in June 2006.
At the moment there is not an Irish psytrance label and producers are in the "work in progress" state. Pleadian Renegade who have made tracks with Bushman or Shanti (Spun) and dj Zefer (neutronyx - AP records) are starting to be booked abroad and together with DJ Geoff, Daniell Rrell, Markino, DJ Druid and Gav Phrazer are the highlights of the island.
For now, the scene is growing very nicely keeping all the magic and some new collectives will evolve, so the future is looking very bright for the Irish Trancer.
