Echoes of psy-trance culture in ROMANIA!
Imagine a truly wonderful land of contrasts, a wild golden field surrounded by the impetuous Carpathians, where the vibes of goa-trance take people into crazy dances in the dim light of the full-moon – a unique blend of pure, untouched nature and psychedelic music, meant to broaden the mind and free the spirit.
International Gatherings in Romania hide behind their mysterious atmosphere and trance dance experience, the innocent feeling of getting in vibration with the nature in an extremely mellow, peaceful country environment. The history of Romanian trance music started in the mid. Nineties in Sibiu, thanx to the “Techno Experience Crew“ who started to organize small outdoor and indor events. Later, in the beginning of ’99 romanian artist Atma together with Dj R’tur and some friends started to organize weekly trance party’s under the name of “The Guardians Of Truth”. Beside the the two musical projects headed by Atma (Atma & R’tur & Ravana), Romania has also other artists like Hypno, Sneila, E-Mantra, Chaikovsky and also interesting Dj’s such Ligos, R’tur, Latam, Dreamtime Enhancer, Dumitru, Oniric, Penta Pan, Mihail…
Most of the events nowadays take place in Transylvania, a region which holds within its meadows and peaks, caves and dense forests the trance of a bygone age. Taking into consideration the rigid past the country has been through, it was not an easy beginning for the trance music in Romania. But now it started and it can’t be stopped anymore.
2004 trough a collaboration of Spacesheep(RO) and Plasmamusic(DE) Transylvania calling was born. A Gathering of the tribes people still talk about took place on a hill near Rasnov Citadel from where you also could see the castle of Vlad the Impaler better known as Dracula. Taking place in the rugged wilderness of the Alps of Transylvania; an international festival which is meant to revive the pure spirit of nature communion and psychedelic music. 2005 Dreamtime Productions, a group of local & international artists with its home base in the Medieval City Sibiu / Hermannstadt was formed to promote the trance and TC in Romania. Transylvania Calling takes Trancers annually on a mystical journey during the course of 3-5 days Music, Art & Lifestyle. Its Tribedelic character is represented by the colourful decorations, the chai shops, the full moon, fire twirling performers, jugglers, stilt walkers, chill-out grooves. Dj’s & Liveacts from all over the world give the pure experience of getting into the vibe: Bluetech, Midi Terranien(G), Loopus in Fabula(I), Squaremeat(FI), Krumelur(Sweden), Styx(G), Talpa(Serbia), Tamlin(SE), Sienis(SE), Shuma(Croatia) Atma(RO), Trold(Norway). The next gathering is planned for the full moon weekend of May 2006.
Furthermore, few smaller Full Moon open air´s happening in summer of 2005. “Summer Solstice” last year brought together people from every corner of the country in the beautiful region of Paltinis.
Indoor parties take place in most of the big cities in winter and autumn. They are truly “underground”, since most clubs are alike catacombs, remains of the tunnels and cellars from the Medieval Age. “Open your mind” a series of monthly trance nights in Sibiu- arrived already to its second edition and brought into the psyscene the best RO Live Act: Atma , Kliment(BG) and many others. Also in Sibiu you can Chill out every Friday from 7 pm to midnight with Dj Chaikovsky in the Chill Out Café.
Finally, Gatherings in Romania represent an entrance into another world, simpler, more spiritual, a trip to rediscover the trance within the local places, a journey to an upper level of collective catharsis.
